Guest Lecture by Frank Edward (UDSM)

On June 23rd 2022 we were able to welcome Frank Edward from the History Department of the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to our Lecture Series. Building on his research on the history of infrastructure technologies in Dar es Salaam, he critically examined recent international discourses on urban flooding in the context of climate change, emphasizing the need for a more historical lens which also accounts for the effects of technocratic actions in both the colonial and postcolonial city. He was accompanied by fellow researchers from Tanzania who are part of the Global History of Technology project (ERC) led by Mikael Hård at TU Darmstadt. We were really happy to revive our Swahili connections after such a long time of travel restrictions. Thank you all for coming!
