Serious game test run
On November 21st, 2023, the students of the M5 “Social Media and Disasters” course (MA, led by Everjoy Chiimba) pioneered the first phase of the trial run of a serious game which is part of Rupa’s PhD project on “Exploring the Socio-Historical Complexity of Disasters Through Serious Games: Virtual Insights into the Diverse Experiences and Challenges of Living and Working in a Flood-Prone Region.”
This trial session offered the students an opportunity to engage in an interactive and practical exercise delving into the pivotal role of serious games in disaster research. Notably, this session also served as a significant milestone for Rupa as she could see part of her PhD work in action. The game was described as captivating and engaging. Students highlighted the relatability and the ease of comprehension of such a learning tool underscoring the potential of serious games as an effective educational tool in disaster-related studies.
